Contempt of court
The Official Solicitor has a duty to review cases of people committed to prison for contempt of court (contemnor). Every case in which a person has been sent to prison is reviewed and if a defect in the committal is discovered, the matter may be referred either to the Judge who made the order or to the Court of Appeal. If the contemnor wishes to apologise to the court, the Official will advise the contemnor on the procedure to follow.
